GEOMETRY

This course covers all aspects of geometry. All of the standard elements of geometry will be introduced visually, analytically, inductively and finally deductively. The students will make conjectures and then investigate those conjectures in a variety of ways. CONCEPTUAL PHYSICS

This course focuses upon the attainment of knowledge and understanding of fundamental physics principles. Unlike physics courses traditionally taught at a 11th grade level, this course is designed to focus on the basic concepts of physics without the application of a lot of mathematics. As with any of the science department's courses, skills such as science reasoning, experimental design, laboratory procedures and problem solving are integrated and developed through a study of physics topics. The topics themselves include linear and rotational mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves, and other topics. |

In terms of reading, students will begin to interpret authentic literature of greater length written by and for native speakers, and to respond to it both orally and in writing. Students attend the language lab regularly to continue to develop listening skills. A minimum of 45 minutes per night of homework and review is expected. |
HONORS FRENCH 4

Honors French 4 emphasizes fluency of speech, and expansion of vocabulary and a precision of grammatical structures. New grammar is studied as well. Students continue to develop and refine writing skills and read and analyze a novel in French. Students attend the language lab regularly to continue to develop listening skills. A minimum of 45 minutes per night of homework and review is expected. |
AP FRENCH

Advanced Placement French is a fifth-year course. In addition to new grammar, students review structure from the previous four years in anticipation of the AP exam. Oral proficiency is emphasized by listening to and discussing interviews of native speakers, news reports, film and songs. In order to improve reading skills, students read a sampling of French literature and study a French novel. Written skills are improved through writing and revision of journals, essays and compositions. Students attend the language lab regularly to fine-tune listening and speaking skills. A minimum of 60 minutes per night of homework and review is expected.

Course vocabulary and grammar from Spanish 1 are reviewed and students are prepared for entrance into Spanish 2. Spanish 1B and Spanish 2 must be taken in the same year. |

SPANISH LITERATURE

This course is geared for students (native and non-native speakers alike) who are proficient in Spanish and enjoy literature. Literature from a variety of Spanish-speaking countries will be read in and outside of class. Students will react to the pieces orally and in essays, as well as via skits, creative writing assignments, and other projects. The course is conducted entirely in Spanish, and students will have the opportunity to study works from a variety of genres, including short stories, essays, poetry, and a short novel. |
AP SPANISH

This course is primarily intended to prepare students for the comprehensive AP Exam. This course contains an intensive grammar review as well as new grammar not previously introduced. Students will read literature of Hispanic authors and discuss these works orally as well as in written critiques. Students will work on the written, oral, reading and aural skills needed to succeed on the AP exam as well as to refine their skills to survive in the target culture.
