School District 120 is committed to providing a high quality English Language Learner program that values a student's native language and culture to accelerate the acquisition of the English language. Our goal is to provide students with the academic and language skills needed to meet or exceed achievement standards.
FAQ's About ELL Programs
How do you qualify for services?
Parents compl ete the Home Language Survey at the time of registration. If a language other than English is reported to be present in the home or is the student's first language, the student will be screened with the English Language Screener, W-APT.
Can parents refuse ELL services?
If the student qualifies for4 ELL services, parents may withdraw their child immediately from the program by completing an MHS ELL/BIL Waiver. However, students will still participate in the annual State mandated English proficiency assessment, ACCESS, until they meet exit criteria.
What is the ELL Exit Criteria?
Exit Criteria is determined by the Illinois State Board of Education. According to the state, a student must score a score of 4.2 on the Literacy section of the ACCESS, and a 4.8 on the Composite section of the ACCESS.

Mundelein High School's Parent Advisory Committee participates in the planning, operations, and evaluation of the ELL/BIL programs. The committee is composed of parents, teachers, community members, and MHS administrators.
Members Include: Veronica Villasenor, Sandra Escobar, Manuel Reyes, Maria Sanchez, Ana Reyes, Manuel Reyes, Maximo Soriano, Rosario Morales, and James Ongtengco.
