2016 RESULTS & HIGHLIGHTS

IHSA Sectional Tournament

The 2016 Girls Golf season ends on a high note with Isabella Loverde shooting an 89 which is her best 18-hole score of the year. She had a birdie on her final par 5 hole to keep her score in the 80s! She had a very good season and a successful 4-year golf career, always representing Mundelein H.S. with class and integrity.

IHSA Regional Tournament

Due to final exams, only two girls competed in the Regional Tournament at Bonnie Brook, senior, Isabella Loverde and junior, Libby Burmeister. It was only Libby’s second tournament of the year and she improved her score by 30+ shots! Her improvement has been remarkable and she can’t wait for next year! Isabella’s goal was to qualify to the Sectional Tournament which she accomplished by finishing in 9th place and winning an at-large spot. Isabella adds her name to the list of 10 Lady Mustang Qualifiers in the past 12 years.

End of Dual Match Season vs. Johnsburg

The team can’t believe that our dual match season has ended! No one is ready for it to be over because we are just starting to see the results of our work. This is a very difficult sport and it takes time!

The Lady Mustangs lost the match to visiting Johnsburg, but had its lowest team score of the season! JHS 210 – MHS 228 Isabella Loverde continues to shine, leading all scorers with a 39. Junior, Libby Burmeister, shot a new personal best of 53 and had her first birdie! Tori Zanoni and Ryan Wilson also continue to improve their individual scores. YEAH TEAM!

North Suburban Conference Tournament

9/28 at Bonnie Brook G.C.
Mundelein hosted the 2016 NSC Tournament on a gloomy and very wet day. The Mustangs finished in 6th place shooting 521 and an overall finish of 6th when combined with match results. The focus of this season has always been about improvement and the 18-hole team score improved by 42 strokes from the beginning of the season! Our team had 4 golfers who had never played 18 holes prior to the season, so we are very proud of our accomplishments!

It is no surprise that Captain, Isabella Loverde, led the Mustangs shooting 90 and receiving a 9th place medal which is her best performance in this contest! Unfortunately, Libby Burmeister was ill and unable to play, but the other girls all improved their 18-hole scores. Ryan Wilson shaved 33 strokes from her earlier tournament score, Tori Zanoni and Alex Hevko both had their first pars, and Alex shot a personal best on the front 9!

“It is not how you start, but how you finish!

Week of 9/20

MHS vs. Lake Zurich at Countryside 9/20
The Mustangs struggled against Lake Zurich who shot their lowest score of the season 198 – 238. The highlight for Mustangs was the performance of Libby Burmeister who had a personal best score of 55! Congrats to Libby!

MHS at Vernon Hills 9/22
Unfortunately, Mundelein loses another match to Vernon Hills 186 – 243. This match was not without success, however. Isabella Loverde led all scorers and shot her personal best score of 38!!!!! That has been her goal all season and it could not come at a better time. Hard work does pay off!

Week of 9/12

MHS at Libertyville
Another challenging week for the Lady Mustangs with matches against two of the North Suburban powerhouses; Libertyville and Lake Forest. On 9/13, we played Willow Glen and even though the Wildcats shot an impressive 160, we showed a significant improvement and had our best team score of this season! Libby Burmeister, Tori Zanoni and Ryan Wilson all shot personal best scores. This year it is all about learning and improving, and we are moving in the right direction!

MHS at Lake Forest
On 9/15, the team traveled to Deerpath to play the Scouts and Lake Forest defeated the Mustangs 175 to 234. We shaved another 10 strokes off our team score and Libby Burmeister, Tori Zanoni and Alex Hevko all shot personal best scores! YEAH!!!

9/8 Results

The Mustangs hosted Warren on our Traditional course and took a loss. Isabella Loverde led all players with a 45!

9/6 Results

The Lady Mustangs have their first victory, defeating Waukegan at Brae Loch! The team was able to finish 5 holes before the storm and edged the Bulldogs by 5 strokes. Leading the Mustangs was Isabella Loverde with a 29.

9/1 Results

The Mustangs lose their first NSC match to Stevenson at Crane’s Landing and overall were not happy with their performance. The highlight was junior, Libby Burmeister’s lowest score of the season.

Personal Best!

Isabella Loverde shot a personal best of 42 in the match vs. McHenry at Boone Creek G.C.
