2017 RESULTS & HIGHLIGHTS

The 2017 Girls Golf season began on August 7 with the best freshmen turnout in the past four years. With all of our experienced golfers graduating, we are rebuilding with all underclass girls which is a good sign for the future of the program! The goal this year is to improve skills, gain valuable experience and learn how to compete.

SEASON WRAP-UP

North Suburban Conference Tournament @ Bonnie Brook
Unfortunately for the team, Tessa Pierpont was unable to play due to injury, so the team had a 6th place finish which was combined with the win-loss record. The girls were still able to post some personal records! Ryan Wilson had her best 9-hole score of 62 and her best tournament total, and her teammate, Alex Hevko, shot a 118 for her personal best 18-hole score! Congratulations to both players!

IHSA Regional Tournament @ Bittersweet
This was the first regional tournament play for all five players on the most difficult course that is played all season and they shot a 487. They were hoping to do better, but this level of competition is completely different than regular tournament play. It was valuable experience for next season. Maddie Wade tied her PR of 49 on the front 9 holes and Ryan Wilson finished the season with 2 personal records; 61 for 9-holes and a 129 total score!!!

Impressive Improvements
Our two sophomores, Alex Hevko and Ryan Wilson, showed amazing improvements from last season! Alex improved her season average by 9 strokes and her tournament score by 15! Ryan improved her average by 8 strokes and her 18- hole score by 20 strokes!!!

A Note to Future Golfers
Golf is a sport that will enrich your life! It is extremely challenging and requires patience, concentration and hard work to master. It is the only sport that requires players to call penalties on themselves and keep accurate scores which reflects a level of integrity that will impress scholarship committees and employers. Take a risk and tryout for the 2018 season!

WEEK 3

Waukegan Invite @ Bonnie Brook on 9/9
his is one of the largest tournaments with the most talented field of players prior to the State Meet Series and the first year of participation for this very young Mustang team. Every tournament is providing valuable experience for next season. The Mundelein team score was not competitive, but two players did post personal best scores! Tessa Pierpont had a consistent round with scores in the 50s on both front and back, and Alex Hevko had a personal best on her back 9. Great Effort by both girls!

MHS vs. Libertyville @ Countryside on 9/12
The lowest score for the Lady Mustangs was shot by Alex Hevko, staying in the 50s and showing a steady improvement.

MHS vs. Lake Forest @ Countryside on 9/14
Even though the Mustangs did not get the victory, the team score improved by 16 strokes from their previous match and their lowest team score of the season with a 242! Tessa Pierpont really shot well with a 52 for her best score and the lowest score of the season for the team. Also contributing to the team score were Maddie Wade, Alex Hevko and Ryan Wilson.

WEEK 2

Mustangs vs. Stevenson Patriots @ Countryside
SHS 168 – MHS 264
The Mustangs did not give the Patriots any competition in this match. Tessa Pierpont led the team with a 57, followed by Maddie Wade’s score of 62. Sometimes, you have to suffer a disappointing loss to get re-energized!

Mundelein @ Waukegan (Bonnie Brook)
Bonnie Brook is a course that the team will visit repeatedly throughout the season and in future years because it the site of the NSC Tournament and the Waukegan Invite. We anticipated a tight match going into this one. After the first foursome, the Mustangs were leading by 1 stroke, the next scores were tied and our fourth score edged out the opponent for a 2-stroke VICTORY!!!! Maddie Wade posted the lowest score, but the highlight was a personal best by sophomore, Ryan Wilson!

Mundelein @ Warren (Bittersweet)
Warren 178 – MHS 268
Playing without Tessa Pierpont due to illness, the Mustangs struggled on a difficult course. The highlight of the match for Mundelein was a personal best for Alex Hevko! She’s not intimated by Bittersweet!

WEEK 1

The Antioch Invite @ Spring Valley
This was a much better effort and the Mustangs bounced back from their defeat on Wednesday. The team score improved by another 18 strokes and 4 personal best scores. Both freshmen, Faith Romberger and Olivia Szalinski played in their first tournament and had personal best scores for 9-holes. Tessa Pierpont had her lowest 18-hole score and Maddie Wade just missed a medal with a score of 100! Way to go Team!

Mustangs vs. Lakes @ Midlane
The Lady Mustangs took a step backward in this contest. They were a little beat up and emotionally drained after two invites.

Lake County Invite @ Bonnie Dundee
The team was more relaxed for their second tournament in 3 days and improved by 61 strokes! We know that we have a long way to go, but 3 girls had personal best scores; Alex Hevko, Tessa Pierpont and Maddie Wade. Great job Mustangs!

Orange-Brown Throwdown (Hersey) Invite @ Arlington Lakes
The first 18-hole tournament of the season and for our freshmen, their first time playing 18. This was an invite filled with highly skilled players, so it was a learning experience. Overall, both Tessa Pierpont and Maddie Wade posted good scores.

MHS vs. Grant (rainout)

MHS vs. Richmond Burton @ Countryside
MHS 255 – RB 217
The season opener was the first match for several of our girls and even though it was a team loss, the score was better than last year’s first contest. Freshman, Tessa Pierpont was the low score for the Mustangs, followed by Freshman, Maddie Wade and Sophomore, Alex Hevko.
