Mundelein High School District 120 Earns Two Notch Bond Rating Upgrade

"The two notch bond rating upgrade is a win for the district and the community tax-payers."
Jody L. Ware, Former Superintendent.

Mundelein High School was recently rated by Standard and Poor’s and received a two notch bond rating upgrade from “A+” to “AA” with a stable outlook. The report sited improved financial performance with a strong level of cash reserves, moderate debt burden and very strong income and market value per capita among the reasons for the upgrade. The District also received a financial management rating of “Good” – reflecting strong budgeting practices, facility and strategic planning, financial projections and fund balance restoration.

Improving the bond rating was identified as a goal when the district worked with the community to identify a financial and facility long-range-plan. As part of the bond rating improvement process, Gary Lonquist, business manager, prepared answers to a detailed questionnaire for the rating agency along with the guidance of bond consultant William Blair & Company. This strong and improved bond rating will reduce the District’s cost of capital as it prepares for its $10M bond issue pursuant to the referendum approval of its debt service extension base.

The two notch bond rating upgrade is a win for the district and the community tax-payers, said Jody L. Ware, Superintendent.
