College Week includes free applications and FAFSA Workshop

October 10, 2017

Mundelein High School will celebrate its annual College Week, Oct. 16-20, with a number of activities to help students prepare for their college careers. Some of those activities include:

Essay Assistance Day on Oct. 16 where students may get help with application essays during lunch periods; Financial Aid Workshop and Financial Aid Information to be presented Oct. 17 during lunch periods in the District Meeting Room; a College Panel on Oct. 18 during second and third periods where graduates in college will speak with students about their college experiences; Free Application Day on Oct. 19. Twenty-five colleges will be available for all seniors during lunch periods for free application completion; and on Oct. 20 counselors and Illinois Student Assistance Commission representatives will assist students in completing applications during the lunch periods.

A free workshop to help students and/or parents complete financial aid forms and apply for many types of financial aid will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Mundelein High School. The workshop, to be held in rooms C-103 and C-104 in the new addition, will be presented in both English and Spanish. The event is part of a week-long tradition of “College Week” at MHS coordinated by College Counselor Andrea Rusk.

Attendees will get help in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid [FAFSA] which is also available here. This form is required to be considered for state and federal financial aid programs.

Those attending the workshop should bring student and parent 2016 tax forms, driver’s license or state ID and social security card and recent bank statements.  Also needed are information about assets such as savings, certificates of deposit, stock options, bonds and investment real estate, business and farm.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission [ISAC], local financial aid experts and ISAC-trained volunteers will be available to answer questions. Members of the MHS Guidance Department will also be available.
