Mundelein High School is excited to announce that our new Head Girls Tennis Coach is Derek Gablenz. Coach Gablenz has over 30 seasons of successful tennis coaching experience. He grew up in Crystal Lake, IL. Coach Gablenz served three years in the U.S. Army after high school. He attended Western Illinois University. Coach Gablenz has previously served as the Head Girls tennis coach at Jacobs and Barrington High Schools. His 2002 Jacobs team won the school’s first conference championship. His 2003 Barrington girls team finished in 6th place in the state tennis tournament. He has been the JV boys coach at Barrington the past 19 seasons. Coach Gablenz is approaching 400 team dual victories in his career. This spring, he helped the Barrington Broncos to a 3rd place team finish at the IHSA State Tennis Tournament. Coach Gablenz is excited to be a Mustang and work with our student athletes. He and his wife Cindy have two sons (Cam and Ben), a daughter (Sam), and a Labradoodle named Harper.

The Fall 2022 Varsity Tennis tryouts have concluded. We have a squad of 15 girls and we are excited to represent Mustang Nation
We are still looking to add 10-12 more freshman and sophomores to our team.
