For the second straight year, Mundelein High School was recognized as one of the “Best Communities for Music Education (BCME)” in the nation by the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation. The award, a signature program of NAMM, recognizes and celebrates schools and districts for their support and commitment to music education and efforts to assure access to music for all students as part of a well-rounded education.

The BCME Application Process

  • The application process focuses on Data on student demographics, teacher/student ratios, music education participation rates, music education electives, teacher qualifications, assessment standards, facilities, and budget are all factors that contribute to the attainment of this award.
  • Through the process we collected the following unique data points that make MHS truly stand out:
    • All of our educators attend PD each year (not common amongst similar schools)
    • All of our educators have advanced degrees in their field
    • We have great attendance at our events from all levels of administration, school board, and community
    • Our students consistently rank as some of the top performers at their respective instruments compared to others across the state and nation.
    • We provide a diverse range of performance opportunities:
  • Competitions
  • Public Performances in our community
  • Collaborative events with local professionals
    • Joint concerts with other schools in the community
We have a robust budget that supports all students in their class work (much higher than the average school in our state)
  • 25% of our students in the school participate in some form of performing art.
Once all of the information is compiled, it is submitted to the NAMM Foundation (National Association of Music Merchants). Once all applicants are compiled, they select schools to be awarded the "Best Community for Music Education" award. Illinois is home to many award winners. We are 1 of just 88 individual schools in the nation to receive this award. There are 935 school districts that have earned the honor as well.
