Auditorium

  • The current auditorium and stage is mostly unchanged since the school opened in 1961.
  • MHS has plans to build a new auditorium similar to the one pictured here.

Cafeteria

  • The Mundelein High School cafeteria pictured in the early 1960s.
  • Because of the limited size of the cafeteria, MHS has four lunch periods starting at 10:25 and ending at 1:40 p.m. Each lunch period includes about 450 students.
  • The food service area at MHS is mostly unchanged since the school opened in 1961. Students split into two lines in the area leading into the cafeteria.

Food Service/Servery

  • The MHS food servery is mostly unchanged since the school opened in 1961.
  • Because of the narrow food service area leading into the cafeteria, the line of students waiting for lunch stretches well into the hallway.
  • MHS has plans to build a modern cafeteria and food servery similar to the one pictured here.

Hallway Area

  • Students fill the hallways in between classes at MHS in the early 1960s.
  • MHS students fill the hallways in between class periods.

Open Seating Area

  • Outside of the cafeteria, one of the few common areas for MHS students to gather each morning is the open space between the auditorium, gymnasium, and cafeteria.
  • Because MHS has multiple levels, adding a seating area on the stairs like the one pictured here would be possible. It would offer another option for students to congregate and collaborate.

Band Room

  • The MHS band room was designed for 80 students. There are currently about 250 students participating in band.

Fieldhouse/Multipurpose Area

  • MHS has plans to build a fieldhouse similar to the one pictured here. It would be a multi-purpose room used for sporting events, PE classes, marching band practice, the science olympiad, robotics tournaments and more.
