Bands, Choirs to hold back-to-back concerts

Mundelein High School’s Concert and Symphonic bands will perform in concert Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. The free concert is the first performance of the year for the Symphonic Band and also the first time that the Freshman Concert Band will perform as an ensemble. The Concert Band’s performance theme is “Music from Across America” featuring Prairie Dances by David Holsinger, Alamo March by Karl L. King and Fantasy on Yankee Doodle by Mark Williams. The Symphonic Band will perform a multi-movement piece titled Animal Krackers by Christopher Tucker.

The following day, Thursday, Dec. 13, the choirs and bands will collaborate on their annual Holiday Collage Concert. The free concert will feature performances by two of the concert bands, several choirs, jazz ensemble and the percussion ensemble. The concert will begin with a joint mass choir and band selection, Joyeux Noel arranged by Douglas Wagner. The concert will conclude with Hallelujah [chorus, The Messiah, 1741] by Georg Friedrich Handel; arr. Johnson.

Andy Sturgeon and Jerry Shelato direct the instrumental music groups while Cory Thompson and Stevee Bellas direct the vocal groups.
