New Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Matt Badgley
At its April 26 meeting, the Mundelein High School District 120 Board of Education authorized the hiring of varsity head coaches for boys basketball, girls basketball and wrestling. All join the coaching staff with previous experience.
“During the interview process, our final candidates rose to the top because of their personal integrity and the culture and climate that they hope to bring to our athletic programs,” said Troy Parola, athletic director at MHS.
Matthew Badgley will take over the boys basketball program. Currently Assistant Principal/Dean of Students at Wauconda High School, Badgley holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and a master’s degree from Lindenwood University in Missouri. He is completing a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Concordia University – Chicago. He has past experience in administration at Lebanon Community Unit District #9, Hazelwood East High School and Collinsville High School. He was head varsity boys basketball coach at Trico High School and Lebanon High School and assistant coach at Hazelwood East and Pinckneyville high schools. He also coached varsity golf for four years at Hazelwood.
“We look forward to Matt directing our boys basketball program,” Parola said. “We spoke with college basketball coaches in the Big 10 and Big 12 who gave strong recommendations concerning Matt’s leadership style,” he explained.
Greg Dorgan will lead the varsity girls basketball program. Currently the mathematics department chair at Wauconda High School, Dorgan will join the mathematics faculty at MHS. He holds a bachelors degree in mathematics secondary education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a masters degree in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. While at Wauconda Dorgan has served as interim head varsity girls basketball coach, head coach for sophomore and freshman boys basketball and junior varsity boys basketball. He has also coached girls basketball at Matthews Middle School in Island Lake and freshman boys basketball at Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect.
Craig Stocker is the new MHS varsity wrestling coach. He is currently the head coach and physical education teacher at Lakes High School in Lake Villa. He will also join the PE department at MHS. He also has previous teaching/coaching experience at Fremd and Stevenson high schools.
Stocker holds a bachelors degree in kinesiology with a major in physical education. He has coached wrestling at Lakes since 2012 where he has also coached track and football.
“I’m excited to bring these three individuals to key leadership roles within our coaching positions at MHS. I’m confident that they will teach, coach and mentor our many fine student athletes,” Parola concluded.
