Mundelein High School senior Autumn Brown made the most of her time at the Lake County Tech Campus program this year, helping her jump-start a promising career in health care.

Right now, her biggest challenge seems to be where to keep all of her awards.

Brown was named Student of the Year in the Tech Campus Emergency Medical Service I program. She also earned National Technical Honor Society status, was a top five finalist for overall Tech Campus Student of the Year and named Illinois Principal Association Student of the Year.

During the State Competition in the CPR/First Aid USA Skills event, Brown took first place, earning her a trip to Atlanta in June to compete at the National Skills USA Competition.

“Autumn’s commitment to continuous learning truly sets her apart,” said Tech Campus EMS Teacher Marianne Peistrup. “She consistently seeks opportunities to expand her knowledge and refine her skills, reflecting a level of dedication that goes beyond expectations.”

Tech Campus Principal Derrick Burress called her an outstanding student who exemplifies compassion, dedication, and a strong commitment to the EMS and nursing fields. Autumn will be continuing her work in the medical field at the College of Lake County this coming fall.

At Tech Campus, Brown consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, particularly in high-pressure situations, Burress said. In her letter nominating Brown as Student of the Year, Peistrup said Brown showed a willingness to assist others in developing their skills and understanding.

“Autumn not only mastered the program material but also applied her knowledge in meaningful ways to support and uplift her peers,” Peistrup wrote.

She was often the first to grasp new material and willingly supported her peers by helping clarify concepts and answer questions. Brown actively contributed to events such as the Tour of Tech and will also be assisting with Future Quest. As one of the Tech Campus student ambassadors, she represented Tech Campus by speaking at her former middle school about how Tech Campus has positively influenced her career development.

During her emergency room clinicals and ride-time experiences, mentors noted her professionalism, strong work with and natural ability to connect with patients. While Brown can look ahead to continuing her studies at CLC, she was appreciative of the time she spent at Tech Campus.

“I really enjoyed all the hands-on opportunities Tech Campus provided to help get me experience in the medical field,” Brown said.
