    MHS music students named to IMEA District VII Honors Ensembles

    The Illinois Music Education Association named 13 Mundelein High School music students to its District VII Honors Ensembles. The honor places these students are in the top 5 percent of performers on their instrument. All students in these ensembles are being considered for All-State Honors (to be announced in November). These individual honors are the result of students preparing upwards of five musical excerpts that are performed for judges across the state.

    Two MHS seniors reach perfection on ACT test

    A pair of Mundelein High School seniors achieved perfect scores on the ACT test they took near the end of their junior years. Liam O’Neill and Paige Prochnow practiced and studied extensively prior to taking the test last April. They both scored a perfect composite score of 36. “It’s an amazing achievement for both of these students,” said MHS Principal Alex Taylor. “Both Paige and Liam showed that they are willing to put in the effort to do their very best.

    D120 Board earns governance recognition honor

    The District 120 School Board once again earned state recognition for their effective governance behaviors, the Illinois Association of School Boards announced. The Board was one of 42 Illinois school districts honored with the School Board Governance Recognition. It recognizes the Board’s effective governance behaviors and their commitment toward obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively govern the district.

    D120 Transition Center building named in honor of former superintendent

    The Mundelein District 120 community celebrated the first completed project of its Facilities Improvement Plan on Sept. 10 with a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony in the newly named “Myers Education Center.” The building, which recently became the new home of the D120 Transition Center, honors former District 120 Superintendent Kevin Myers who retired in June after serving Mundelein schools for 11 years.

    Two MHS grads receive Next Step Grants

    ​Two recent Mundelein High School graduates were recognized Sept. 9 by the District 120 School Board after receiving $2,500 Next Step grants from the Lake County Regional Office of Education Foundation (LCROEF). The new grant was created to fill a critical gap in the support system for students pursuing life after high school. There are no restrictions so long as the funds directly support students identified as having significant financial need.

    Mundelein High School Principal to leave after school year

    Mundelein High School Principal, Dr. Alexandria Taylor, announced Friday that she will leave MHS at the end of the academic school year in order to continue raising her young and growing family. Taylor, the first Latina principal at Mundelein High School, recently began her fourth year at the helm of MHS. Her resignation will be submitted to the District 120 School Board on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

    District 120 to host Grand Opening of Transition Center's new home

    The Mundelein School District 120 community will celebrate the first completed portion of the Mundelein High School Facilities Improvement Project when they host the Grand Opening of the District 120 Transition Center on Wednesday, Sept. 10. The Transition Center, previously located on the north end of Mundelein High School, has moved into the newly renovated MHS Annex building (formerly the Kirk of the Lakes Church).

    D120 Board adjusts school calendar during high school construction

    Aug 13, 2025

    In an effort to allow for construction at Mundelein High School to proceed as effectively as possible, the District 120 School Board on Aug. 12 adjusted the school year calendar for the next two years. Next year’s school calendar will run from Sept. 8, 2026 to June 10, 2027. The following year, it will run from Sept. 7, 2027 to June 9, 2028. The changes will allow for a 15-week summer in 2026 followed by a 13-week summer in 2027. A typical summer in District 120 is 11 weeks long.
