    MHS newspaper, yearbook staffs win awards for 2020-21

    Mundelein High School’s yearbook staff followed in the footsteps of its award-winning newspaper staff this month, receiving top honors in the Illinois Journalism Education Association (IJEA) contest. The award, given to the last year’s yearbook staff on Feb. 1, follows the second place International Award presented in the fall to last year’s newspaper staff for Quill & Scroll’s 2021 News Media Evaluation. The yearbook earned awards in eight of nine categories and second in overall excellence.

    MHS Football program a finalist for national award

    The Mundelein High School football program is one of three in Illinois to be chosen as a finalist in the inaugural National Football Foundation’s (NFF) Academic Excellence Award. The NFF will announce the winner of its National High School Academic Excellence Award from among 62 finalists in 13 states on Feb. 9. The initiative is designed to inspire and foster a culture of academic excellence on high school football teams throughout the nation.

    Mundelein Theatre presents murder mystery

    If you like to laugh, then Mundelein Theatre has the show for you. “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” is a fun, silly, comical whodunit that will keep you guessing as to the identity of the killer at the center of its murder mystery plot. The show runs on Thursday-Saturday, February 3, 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. There is a 3:45 p.m. matinee on Friday, February 4. Additionally, there will be a performance on Saturday, February 5 at 2 p.m. featuring the understudy cast.

    MHS alumnus returns on a mission of equity and opportunity

    Trey Baker walked down the halls of his old high school like the conquering hero. Teachers and students called out his name, waved, or stopped for a quick hug. The Class of ‘21 Mundelein High School graduate returned Dec. 15 not just to visit old friends and teachers, but to advance a program very near and dear to his heart: mentoring young men of color and helping them find pathways to opportunity. His visit - and his mission - caught the attention of the news media.
