Mundelein High School’s all-male show choir, SoundFX, took first place this past weekend in the Unisex Division at the Great River Invitational in Davenport, Iowa. This is the second week in a row that the group took first place in a national competition. The all-female group, Lights, was named first runner-up. In addition, the mixed group, Sound, placed fifth runner-up in the finals competition.

“Given the field, I was happy that they were in the mix in finals,” said Ben Schrank, one of the event clinicians. “Tonight you proved that you can hold your own with the best!”

The MHS show choirs will next compete at the John Hersey Chicagoland Showcase at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights.

The MHS vocal department, directed by Cory Thompson and Stevee Bellas, will hold auditions for next year’s groups Feb. 22 and 23 at 3:30 p.m.
