    Boys State candidate Animesh Bijawat wins $2,000 scholarship

    Mundelein High School senior Animesh Bijawat returned from this year’s American Legion Boys State with a $2,000 scholarship, an honor earned by only four of the 200 program participants. During the week-long mock government program held at Eastern Illinois University, Bijawat was elected City Party Chairman, County Party Chairman, and leader of the Federalist Party.

    School Board presents inaugural Award of Excellence in Education

    Citing the success of the Mundelein High School Theatre Department, in particular the production of the spring musical “In The Heights,” the District 120 Board of Education honored MHS Theatre Director Jonathan Meier on Aug. 14 with its inaugural “Award of Excellence in Education.” Board Member Tom Ouimet presented Meier the award during an Opening Day program for the MHS staff in the high school auditorium. Meier accepted the award, but credited his MHS Theatre Department.

    Sen. Johnson donates to MHS Girls State program

    Illinois Senator Adriane Johnson (D-Buffalo Grove) presented three students with citizenship awards for their participation in Girls State and donated $1,000 for the MHS Girls State candidates. The donation will underwrite registration fees for students attending this year’s Illini Girls State and will support two students for the 2024 Illini Girls State convocation.

    Mundelein Summer Theatre is a Family Affair

    The Mundelein Summer Theatre production of The Lion in Winter will be a family affair with MHS Theatre Director Jonathan Meier playing the role of King Henry II and his wife, Jill Reznick Meier, playing the role of the queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine. The remainder of the cast is comprised of alumni and current students of Mundelein Theatre. The play is being directed by Timothy Ortmann, recently the Fine Arts Department Chair at Niles North High School.

    MHS mourns former teacher, coach

    Don Miller, one of the original staff members of Mundelein High School, passed away on Thursday, June 22 at his home in Wauconda. He was 91. Miller, considered by many as a legend at MHS, was a teacher, guidance counselor and coach for several sports during his 43 years at the school.

    The winning team at the MHS Honors Business Incubator Pitch Night is now a finalist in the INCubatoredu National Pitch competition. The team, made up of five graduating seniors from Mundelein High School, was selected as one of the top 5 teams in the country by INCubatoredu. They will compete against four other teams from across the country in Chicago on July 11.
