MHS music program listed among best in the nation

Mundelein High School has earned its place among the “Best Communities for Music Education (BCME)” in the nation. This unique and prestigious award is given by the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation. The award, a signature program of NAMM, recognizes and celebrates schools and districts for their support and commitment to music education and efforts to assure access to music for all students as part of a well-rounded education.

All-Time Classic Musical Comedy at Mundelein High School

Mundelein High School will present the quintessential musical romantic comedies, Guys and Dolls, at the Mundelein Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April 27. There will also be a 2 p.m. show on Saturday. Set in Damon Runyan’s mythical New York City in 1950, the show features Frank Loesser’s brassy, immortal score, with the classic “Luck Be a Lady,” as well as “Adelaide’s Lament” and “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat.”

Mundelein team shines at FBLA Leadership Conference

Mundelein High School had eight top-ten finishers and one first-place national qualifier among various categories during the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Annual State Leadership Conference in Springfield this month. The 18 competitors from MHS performed well against competition with 73 other chapters from around the state.

MHS seniors earn Evans Scholarship

MHS seniors Sergio Rodriguez and Adam Adaska have earned the prestigious Chick Evans Scholarship for golf caddies that covers tuition and housing for all four years. Both will be attending the University of Illinois-Chicago next year.

County Clerk provides voting education to Transition Center participants

Dozens of young adults from several Transition Centers throughout Lake County tried out voting machines for the first time on Wednesday, thanks to the Lake County Clerk’s Office and the District 120 Transition Center. Approximately 74 transition participants (of programs that help them transition from high school to adulthood) registered to vote, filled out ballots and placed “I Voted” stickers on their coats.

Author reveals research, writing process to students at MHS

When author Candace Fleming writes about murder and other true crimes, you can be sure of two things: that she’s very passionate about her subject; and that the story is 100 percent factual. Yet the author is quick to explain that she is not a fact-teller. “I am a storyteller. I just happen to tell stories that are 100 percent true,” Fleming told students at Mundelein High School on Wednesday morning.

MHS senior creates backdrop for middle school musical

When Carl Sandburg Band Director Moulee Gupta was searching for a backdrop for the school’s annual musical, “Descendants,” she hoped to find something special to match the enthusiasm her students were putting into the show. “It was just about finding the right people to make the magic come alive,” she said.

Middletown Comes to Mundelein

The stage of the Mundelein Theatre will be turned into small-town America for the MHS winter play on Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 1-3. Middletown is a funny, quirky, deeply moving play by Will Eno that is not often seen on high school stages.

District 120 to wait until November ballot for next referendum

After taking no action Tuesday night to place a facilities referendum on the March ballot, the Mundelein District 120 School Board instead will consider putting the question to voters at the general election in November. The Board’s Finance and Facilities Committee recommended waiting until next fall, citing a need to provide more time for public input and to further refine the proposed projects.
